Formation of Nouns, Adjectives, Verbs & Adverbs  are explained below in an advanced way so that the learners can learn joyfully.

 Noun:– A noun is a word which denotes only the name of a person, place, or thing.

 

 Examples: Rahul(person), Murshidabad (place) , Pen (thing) etc.

 

Formation of Nouns:

 

***Denoting state, condition, action, result etc.

  1. Most of the Nouns are formed by adding ‘ness’ to an adjective.

 

 

Adjective   +  -ness          =  Noun

 

 

Good   +   -ness        =  Goodness

 

Sad     +       -ness       =  Sadness

 

ill   +      -ness      =   illness

 

Kind   +     -ness  = Kindness

 

Heavy    +  -ness      = Heaviness

 

 

  1. Nouns are formed by adding – ‘ance’ to a verb .

Libra   + -ry  = Library

Formation of Adjectives:

 

 Adjective:-  An Adjective is a word which is generally used to qualify a noun or a pronoun.

  It definately tells the quality of noun or pronoun. 

Examples:  good, fast, beautiful, etc.

He is a  good boy.

Lazy students fail in the exam.

 

  1. Most of the adjectives are formed by adding “-al”

 

Electric   +    -al      = Electrical

Economic  +    -al   = Economical

Tragic     +   -al  = Tragical

 

 

  1. By adding “-ant”

 

Repent    + -ant   = Repentant

Arrogance   +     -ant   = Arrogant

Abundance  +   -ant    = Abundant

 

  1. By adding “-ent”.

 

Obedience    +    -ent   =Obedient

For +  – ward   = Forward

Home   +   -ward   = Homeward

Back  +   -ward   = Backward

 

 

13 . By adding “-tive.”

 

Attention +   -tive     = Attentive

Formation    +   -tive   = Formative

Collection    +   -tive     = Collective

 

14 . By adding “-ed.”

Pot- belly   + ed    = Pot-bellied

One-eye   +ed   =one-eyed

Single-eye   +ed   =single-eyed

Left-hand  +ed  = Left-handed

Assassin     +    -ate    = Assassinate

 

Crime   +   -ate   = Incriminate

 

Habit   +  -ate     = Habituate

Black   +   -en   =blacken

Short   +  -en = Shorten

  1. Most of the Adverbs are formed by adding “ly” to an Adjective

 

 

    Adjectives   +      – ly    = Adverbs

 

Kind    +     -ly   = Kindly

 

Clear  +   -ly    = Clearly

 

Soft   +   -ly =  Softly

 

  1. Adjectives ending in “le” , “e” is dropped and “y” is added.

 

 

Adjectives    +  -ly   = Adverbs

 

Whole    +  -ly  = Wholly

 

Terrible    +  – ly   = Terribly

 

Possible  +     -ly      = Possibly

 

 

3.A few adjectives ending in “ll” only “y” is added.

 

 

Adjectives   +  -ly   = Adverbs

 

Full   +    -ly   = Fully

 

Dull    +    – ly    = Dully

 

 

4.A Few Adjectives ending  “e”, “e” is dropped and ” ly” is added.

 

 

Adjectives    +   -ly   = Adverbs

 

True +   – ly    = Truly

 

Due    +   -ly = Duly
